By His Spirit Part 2

Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 4:6 (ESV)

I loved stories growing up; they inspired me and helped me to believe the possible and live beyond limited environments. I suppose they helped me ponder and dream and think of the call that God had in my life for each season. When growing up, I loved watching Superman and Wonder Woman. I don’t know what was so fascinating at the time. But I suppose there is something attractive about a person who has supernatural powers. Going beyond nature and doing the naturally impossible. Something about them saving the day and making a change. Also seeing them overcome despite the odds, even seeing the David and Goliath storylines unfold. We see so much more of these kinds of films these days with hero’s, solo and groups of hero, with powers and gifting that enable them to overpower the bad guys and save the day.

We see the modern-day marvel films like Wonder Woman, an updated version where Wonder Woman wants to fight the injustices and with a weapon destined to give her all the power she needed to overcome, and “fight the war of all wars”. The films aim was to get her to a point where she realised she is the weapon. I loved that bit as it dawned on me that I am the weapon God wants to use not with my strength and power but with His. Until wonder woman believed she was the weapon she failed, as long as she depended on the sword, she was defeated and could not over. How profoundly this speaks to us today. We have all power and might for the glory of God by the power of the Holy Spirit, and the only way we can get access is by belief in Him and His power and ability to do all things in us and through us.

Lord, I pray that you empower us to live out our God-given purpose and destinies not by might or by power but by your spirit alone. Remind us daily that you called us to be co-labourers of the gospel and make us good stewards of the talents you have given us in Jesus Name we pray.

Much Love in Christ,

Your Sister,

Ruth 😇🙏🏽❤️
